What We Believe
Statement of Faith
The following Statement of Faith expresses the beliefs we share as a church. We do not presume that the statement is exhaustive. It, however, covers cardinal and fundamental truths for christian living as we understand them and conforms to those things clearly set in order in the Holy Scriptures. This is who we are at the core as a churchHover or click on the to see Scripture references.
Scriptures
We believe that the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired by God and are the full revelation of God to man. The Scriptures are the sole and final authority for all matters of faith and conduct.
God
We believe that there is one true God who has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent I AM, the Creator of the universe and the Redeemer of mankind. God has further revealed Himself as a Triune being, manifested as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus, to convict of sin, righteousness and judgement, to regenerate the sinner and to administer the life of Christ. We also believe that:
Man
We believe man was created in the image and likeness of God, but through Adam’s sin became alienated from God, acquired a sin nature and came under the sentence of death. Mankind, apart from God, is spiritually depraved and unable to attain divine righteousness.
Salvation
We believe:
Holy Communion
We believe the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion is an Ordinance of the Church in which all believers, by partaking in faith, share in fellowship with God and one another and commemorate the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ until He returns.
Healing
We believe that divine healing and health are provided for in God’s Covenants and are an integral part of the Gospel and the practice of the Church.
Church
We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ in the earth, the habitation of God through the Spirit, endued with divine power and ability to fulfill her great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of Christ’s Body, the Church.
The responsibilities and work of the Church are:
The Local Church is a body of Christians bound together in covenant commitment. It represents the Body of Christ in a given locality and time. It is under the sovereign headship of the Lord Jesus Christ, administered through a team of elders exercising autonomous government under Him, administering all its affairs and ministry. The Local Church should seek to operate in harmony with the Church Universal.
The Priesthood and the believer
We believe in the priesthood of the believer. Every believer, having repented of his sins and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour, has free access into the presence of God. Jesus, being our High Priest, has opened up for us a ‘new and living way’.
Satan
We believe in the reality of Satan and that his present control over unregenerate man does exist.
Committed Giving
We believe the Church should be supported by the committed freewill contributions and offering of its members, doing so joyfully in keeping with the principles of tithing, that they may abound and that there be an abundance to accomplish the purposes of God.
Power in the Word Ministry committed to the highest level of integrity in business and financial matters. Funds received (contributions, offerings, gifts) but not designated for a specific purpose will be used at the discretion of the leaders to meet the needs of the ministry in fulfilling the vision. The books and accounts will be open to examination by official members. A certified accountant will prepare official financial statements annually.
As a church, we will give to other ministries considered deserving and in keeping with our vision of the Kingdom of God.
We will not, in our worship service, over-emphasize money, except as is germane to teaching and building the Body. We expect members to give as a way of life and to responsibly see to meeting the needs of the ministry.
We will, as directed by the Holy Spirit, from time to time, make major or minor investments. All these would be in keeping however, with our goals and objectives.
Water Baptism
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5).
Baptism
As followers of Jesus Christ, baptism is an essential step in our relationship with Him. There are varying views within churches surrounding baptism, so here are some resources to clarify Power In The Word's position on the subject.
